Hi all!

I have been trying for ages to get a transparency ramp working correctly on a cube and couldnt do it. The I switched to a sphere and it worked as I thought it should straight away! Can you use animated ramps (or normal ramps at that) on a basic polygon cube? For some reason maya doesnt like ramps on cubes for me.

Cheers,

Simeon

What exactly is the effect you're after?

If you're using Max and are doing what I think you're doing, then you're using a gradient ramp for transparency on a cube, and want it to be opaque on one end and fade to transparent on the other end. The default UVs on a cube in Max are not set up for that, so you would need to add a uvw mapping modifier and use a planar map to fade it out. you may want to set it to use UVW channel 2 to keep from interfering with the diffuse map.
