I was cutting a hole the ye old fashion (everyone knows how lame Booleans can be) but then I notice on maya 5 a "cut hole". and figured maybe...just maybe the heavens have given us a tool to trust.

so I tried it - seemed to make the hole just fine; however, when I tried cutting it up, it refused too. so I thought "eh..maybe its just history or something".

nope- so basically is this just another Boolean "cleverly" disguised? or am I just doing something wrong.

I really like this tool that basically cut a hole but with out the bad wrap booleans carry.

i'm still on 4.5, but there is a "make hole tool". i'm not sure it that's what you are talking about. that "hole" is probably a set of connected edges sitting inside of a polygon. the set of edges aren't connected by an edge to the edges of the polygon that they are sitting inside. try triangulating that polygon and then you should be able to use the split polygon tool without getting a "cannot start on hole error"
