Hello again,

Here at Design Studio Press I'm excited to be putting together another interesting book. Over the last 11 weeks three Art Center students, Khang Le, Felix Yoon and Mike Yamada have been working hard in the creation of "The Skillful Huntsman". The book will document the concept design process of the three students as they developed the characters, environments and props of this Brother's Grimm fairy tale. Imagine a cool "art of" movie book, but it comes out before the movie. Our design discussions, crits of the work, and the "how to's" of how they did what they did will be the focus of the book. We should wrap up production in about 2 to 3 months and then we will go to print, so watch our web site for previews and news of when the book will go on sale.

Okay, now to what this piece is. I was bored while running some prints of this project so I started to put some color over a sketch that Mike had done of a forest direction. I'm going to finish it up a bit more over the next week, for now here is the WIP.

Are these your students? What a brilliant idea to go all the way thru the design and production. I liked some of the cars........but this is a really nice looking piece of work for a sketch. Just waiting for one of those blue ringed trees to puff smoke out like a puff ball. Orange smoke rings of course. Don't expect we will be seeing that book down here, so keen to see more wip of it.
Thanks for coming to cgtalk by the way.

PaxtonGerrish,
I will post a higher rez later this week.

DogBreath,
Yes, these are my students. Orange smoke, I love it.
Not to fear we will be shipping the book world wide.

Here is quicker one.

This one is still in the same direction, this time it is my sketch as well.
