Just thought some people might want some of the Pyro shots I filmed for a low budget DV film I worked on.

The shot called for the upper floor of a building to explode. I looked into using 3d smoke but the render times were too harsh so I filmed a miniature and some pyro instead. There are several shots at different angles all against a black background.

If anybody wants the DV footage I can upload it to my website but I’m limited with space (10mb) so if anyone wants to host/mirror the clips they are welcome.

It looks great!

I'm very interested in the pyro and smoke footage as I'm going to be undertaking a project for uni very soon. It will incorporate explosion and smoke so I would really like to get my hands on some footage such as that. I can host some footage for a short amount of time, only about 15mb for a week or so in exchange for downloading it from you. Let me know...

Looks cool man!

Good luck with your film man, and don't forget to post a link to the web version when it's finished :)

About the footage I can host them for you for some days I think, will depend on the total size, If you need anything just pm me.

Cheers!

Well here's the first clip

http://www.kurwi.demon.co.uk/Videos/pyro05_DVPAL.avi

Its 2 seconds long 9,848kb uncompressed DV PAL 720 X 576 @ 25fps.

I wish I had more space to upload more clips. But I will replace the clip every few days with a new one.

The footage needs slowing down to add realism. If anyone has Realviz retimer or Reelsmart Twixtor and could do an interpolated slow motion that would be great.

Here some stills from the film I’m working on.

Yeh I did the pyro myself, under the supervision of my neighbour a licensed firework expert. I used a slow burning propellant. The type of powder they use in old muskets for war recreations and self-rising flower. Using a small spoonful of powder and covering it in flour with a slow burning fuse. It burns bright but slowly and creates a nice mushroom effect. The model was about 2ft wide. Made of chipboard and plywood. The spacing between the wooden columns as closely matching the CG building as possible. It was filmed outside at night with 2 powerful spotlights to light the smoke. The model was placed on a metal stand to give it the right height.

Wow, you did well. The work put into it really paid off. Good thing you had a fireworks expert next door. lol
