I'm trying to develop my skills in modeling a bit and although I have zero art background, sometimes I surprise myself with what a few mouse clicks can do. I am seeking some advice, criticism, direction, etc on this new model I'm working on. What looks bad, what could be done to improve, etc. You know the drill. Anyhow I appreciate any comments you have.

It is not intended to be photoreal. My intent is to be cartoon style.

I am not working with a sketch at all. Only from my mind (that's dangerous) Actually the idea came to me while I was working out of Timothy Albee's book 'Essential Lightwave', and the Head Modeling tutorial by Todd Grimes. I decided I really needed some practice in modeling organic stuff and the wolf seemed like a good idea.

I thought the ears were a bit weird and tried some tweaking, but couldn't put my finger on the problem.

The basic premise behind my character is a story that includes human characters mixed with animal characters that interact with each other in a wilderness adventure.

The eyes are not the final product, but I threw in a couble spheres just for effect. I think once I figure out how to do the brow better I can address that issue also. But I was wondering if you meant the eye sockets?

Here is a the head and a wire of the head so far:

me thinks ears shouldn't face forward but to the sides.

also i know it's cartoony but i think the ears should also be pointier. his face (where the eye sockets are) looks kinda flat, maybe you could angle the eyes out a bit.

"I am not working with a sketch at all. Only from my mind"

i still don't see how making a sketch from mind is any easier....

(i'm a non-CG kinda guy)

Thanks for the pointers . Gonna work on them ears and eye areas and get back with an update. It's not that I don't want to use a sketch (i can't draw) or a photo. Just when I started to model I had no direction and just decided to try a wolf, so I went for it. Kind of spontaneous. That's the way I generally end up modelling.
