View Full Version : Starting to modo
dbilgili 10-02-2009, 08:01 PM As a cinema 4D user , modo is so diffucult to solve i think.
I mean the interface , and the usage is a little bit strange.
Firstly i created a shape and then another spahe , but when i tried to move them these 2 shapes moved together.Should i add new mesh from the right handed menu everytime when i want to create another shape as separate.
And another basic problem , i can't even select a face and extrude it , there is a extrude button but i couldn't select the face.
I mean as you can see i couldn't even get the basic things.
So the question.
Is there any good way to learn the basics of modo and understand it.
Any free or paid tutorial suggestion ?

It's not as difficult as you think, just see each object you make as a new layer. Kinda the way you work in Photoshop where you create a new layer for something you add to your image. Work the same way in Modo by hitting N on your keyboard to create a new object layer in which you build your model, then you will build each model as a separate part and they will not all share the same layer. It's that easy! just hit N :)
To switch between vertices, edges and polygons on a object you hit your Space key and then you can see in the upper part of your screen that it changes between each type of selection you can do. So hit space until you see polygons selected there, then select the polygons you wanna work with on your model and extrude them or perform any other operation you want on them.
To learn the basics, study the inclulded manual which is very good. Go and watch the free videos at Luxology-TV, buy some tutorials for example those by Vandigital, they're also very good to get your started and learn the basics. Read the Modo forum and use the searchfunction there to learn how other people solved their similar problems. That should get you started. :)

Is there a way to have it automatically put new meshes on a new individual layers? Or do I have to hit N every time? Thanks in advance.

Hold down the SHIFT key, then click the primitives button.
