I am just re-learning MAX and need a little help.

I am trying to get a glow to be displayed based on a texture. The texture is slowly revealed by a mask so the glow would take the form of a expanding ring that picked up the textures details. But I just cant get it to work. I have assigned the Effects material Id to the MASK the Texture of the Mask and the Material itself but the the glow seems to onlt take the complete surface that the material occupies.

I have managed to make it work with the opacity channel so that the only visible bit of the mesh is the glowing bit but this would mean that I have to have two sets of geometry.

Any Ideas?

AFAIK, the glow is linked directly to the object, not the materials. sometimes its easy to greate a spline shape (& shape animation)that follows the glow you intended to happen, extrude it just a bit, and then apply a transparent material to it so it doesn't interfere with your scene, but still emits the glow.

Thanks for the quick response.

I can limit the glow effect to a single Material using the Effects ID but not the Mask component of that material.
