I want a white shadow of darkness. What is the point to this you ask? I am working on an animation for the courtroom case involving a car accident, and I need this "volumetric shadow of darkness to explain what the driver could NOT see. Everything in the shadow persay, is hidden from his field of view. Does that make more sense? :)

does anyone have a solution?

Hey Zander

Do this:

1) Create a camera and align it with your shadow-casting spot, and link it so that they remain aligned throughout your animation.

2) Add a white 100% self-illuminating material to your [teapot] and a black mat to everything else, and render it.

3) Assign the render to the light as a projector map, and turn on the volume effect

4) Adjust the Near attenuation setting to match the position of the [teapot].

5) Render.

That's a bit of a fudge but should do the job. Alternatively you could render the animation twice, once with the atmospheric turned on (using the projector mask), once with it turned off, and then create a garbage mask and comp them together.

Maybe not as "straight out of the box" as you'd like, but hey I've had a couple of beers tonight and it's the best I can do. There is probably a more elegant way to achieve this effect, but I can't think of it. Hopefully I have at least given you something to think about though :)

I take you tried giving the light a negative value?
