Hi All,

I am try to create an animation which involves water traveling down a hose pipe which causes it to bulge in an exaggerated cartoon style. I don't need to actually create any water effects, I just need a way of making a bulge travel along the geometry of my hose pipe.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

Hi,

I managed to work out a pretty easy way of doing this using soft body dynamics.
Thanks anyway :)

Wow! You got yourself a solution in 20 minutes with soft dynamics! That's awesome!

Well, just for the record... The effect you are looking for could also be achieved by using a Null as an Effector for the tube object (set as Displacement in the tube, using the Null's name as reference). You would need to mess around a bit with the numbers, that don't always do what the seems they would do, but you would get realtime feedback and see how the Null effector would deform the tube.

Anyway, you solved it, so don't bother!

Thanks fror the reply. I actually ended up doing a similar method with soft dynamics...

I created a spline curve from my hose geometry and attached a collision object to it so the collision traveled down the spline. I then just made the hosepipe a soft dynamic object and allowed it to be affected by the collision. I'm not really sure what I'm doing with soft body dynamics, but a few random adjustments to the settings seemed to do the job.

Thanks anyway.
