View Full Version : character: female nude - Suggestions?
philnolan3d 08-11-2003, 05:32 PM This is my 3rd or 4th body, I started working on it last night. I suggested to someone else, who was modeling a head, to build different parts separately and then attach them, then I decided to take my own advice and do that with a body. After making this image I noticed the shoulder blades need to be less prominent near the neck. Any other suggestions?

Another day another body part. Also fixed some of the details that stuck out too much. The knees are a little odd, but I'm still looking for other suggestions.

Looking good :)
Some C&C for you:
One thing that seems to be bit off is the clavicle. Quite simply, I would suggest getting ahold of a reference photo or two of that part of the body to study a bit more closely.
The lower rib contour also seems to stick out in much the same way as the clavicle. This is most apparent in the front view. A banglue should fix that.
The nipple border (if you know what I talking about) also has a very defined edge. Another bandglue will smooth that out.
You are right about the shoulder blades, they do stick out a bit too much. Maybe try to reduce you're geometry in that area from three lines to two lines, you'll will get a much softer edge.
I noticed that you choose a web formation of geometry for the stomach. It's an interesting method but uses about 80% more geometry that a straight grid with the same effect. The web shape is also a bi#ch to adjust because of all those tight polys.
I might suggest reducing your geometry in the knee area. A good simple knee can be achieved with 50-60% less polygons.
I do like your proportions though. All body parts seem to be more or less to the right scale. The legs may be a bit long but that's probably just me.
Hope this helps.
Keep up the great work

Thanks for the advice. The legs are on the long side because my background image is of a comic book character, left over from when I worked on the 3D animated version of the comic book Chimera (Cross Gen Comics).

Day 3 and the body is done. Much thanks to the suggestions I got from Cybernaut. Next up is adding the hands and feet. I've already been working on a new head, so maybe I'll just attach that one. any more suggestions?

Okay day 5 and the modeling is done, unless I get any suggestions for improvements. If not it's off for the fun of texturing. I'm not a big fan of cleaning up UV maps and avoiding stretching. In total she's 5,606 polygons.

If you're wanting to start the UV's soon then I just mention a couple of easy thing you could fix.
1-The ears look a little too close to the front of the face, they usually sit just behind the middle of the head.
2-The bulge at the bottom of the skull in the back of the head goes a bit to far down the spine, moving it up to about ear level will make it look more natural.
3-Her ankles are too thick for a female and could be slenderized somewhat. The toes are slightly too small and could be scaled up to a more proportional size.
I won't mention any more as I'm sure you want to get started on your textures.
Looking great!!
Good luck :)

Thanks, a friend of mine mentioned the ankles and I fixed that, but I'll look into the rest :)

Decided to work on textures for a while before posting again, so it's been a while. I still might add freckles, since she is a red head.

Here I had never even heard that stereo-type until my friend just explained it. I hope everyone doesn't think that about her, I was just trying to get the Irish / Scottish look across.
