Well ive always worke d on the inorganic - the robot or the machinery. It was always rust and grimy steel for me but ive decided to try something different for once. Well no too different relatively but for me it is, here is my first human face. it was modelled in cinema 4d v8 and painted with their bodypaint package. It is still a work in progress , so comments and critiques are very welcome. the uv mesh needs some work as well as maps, but hey its my first serious attempt at a head.

This is the third time i will try to post, i had some problems with a hacker trying to destroy my computer, but i have handled that now.

First i would like to say your model looks realy good, but there are some things that could be improved, it would also be nice if you could post a front and a side wire, so we can check the model a little better.

MODEL

1. The eyes are to deep in the socket, they need to be placedforward and you might need to adjust the eyelids a little.

2. The lower lip, where it joins with the chin looks a bit strange, maybe it lacks definition, but it looks like he has burns from some fire accident.

3. The upper lip needs a little indent above it, between the nose.

SHADER

1. The brown marks you have given him on his skin make him look really sick, like he has aids. Maybe you should tone down those marks a little.

2. You might want to map the color of the lower lip a little further down, to give his mouth some more definition.

3. The eyes are a little bright for the model, he looks like he has had a really hard life, but his eyes are really bright, you should desaturate them a little and maybe add some vains and yellow to his eyes.

Thats it, i do have some questions:

1. How did you do the hair?

2. Did you paint the map yourself, or composed it out of different faces?

Hope i helped you a little.

yeah thanks DOg man
thats some great feedback. i love getting constructive feedback.

i agree with you about the brown points,
im working on developing the texture, and yeah the eyes are to deep in the sockets ,

if you could explain the bit about fire accident on lower lip thatd be great.
in answering your questions:
the black hair is just texture but the white bits around chin and back of neck are just quick set ups using small fields with alpha channel. quite simple yet hard to get right
they are still very much in process.
texture is half painted half photo. i just use the photo as a base and then paint it up from there at the moment its 50/50 but ill get it to full painting soon.
ill get some new shots and wireframe up soon

thanks again

MODEL

The first thing i noticed from the front view is that you ears are to low. The top of the ear is supposed to be at the height of the eyebrow and the bottom of the ear at the height of the bottom of the nose.

It doesn't disturb me as it is now, but you might want to check if your face looks better if the ears are a little higher.

I think the eyes look a lot better this way, with the brown color, he almost has an oriental look.

You still need to work on the lower lip, thats the most disturbing point in the model for me, make the bottom of the lower lip more narrow, it now takes up half of the chin and no lower lip takes up half of the chin. :)

SHADER

The pores on the nose are a little to big and defined.

The space between the eyebrows looks mirrored, change the wrinkles a little bit.

You have one wrinkle really high up his forehead, i don't think a person develops wrinkles in that area, they concentrate on the forehead, but not near the top of the skull.

You might want to experiment with the specular, its really big and bright, gives him a look like he is sweating, if you want this, its ok, if you don't, you need to tone it down a little.

Thats it, keep going!

i was having a look at your sight dogman
very impressive, great attention to detail, i always get slack at that point .
anyway i was wondering what advice you could give me on lighting the model. and wether you've got any maps of spec ,matte and bump you could show me.
and also wether its possible/advisable to use a a luminance map to enduce a feeling of light permiating the skin.
cheers
im still working on it

You have made a lot of progress! The skin looks a lot better. Something is wrong with the ears uv i think, it looks stretched. He could use some more hair :)

wow, he looks like this guy who tried to beat me up for stopping him strangling his girlfriend. never get in the way of domestics! i ended up tombstoning the f**ker, WWF style!

anyway, back on subject, this looking cool, esp for your first go! only thing which stands out to me is the ridges around the side of his mouth, maybe a bit high, or maybe not sharp enough, dunno. still much much much better than i could do!!

keep it up!

I liked the first skin color more. I think the second has too much blue in it. or something, I can't put my hand on it, but it is making me want to puke. (The color...not the model)

I think the ears could still come up a bit. I have a good almost inch to 2 inches between me ear lobe and where my jaw goes downward. And the top of my ear (the top where it meats the head, not the top top. I will explain it further if u need to) is on the same horizontal line basically as my eyebrowes.

Hope this helps. Anyways I need to stop posting and wait for my movie to finish! :applause: Good job so far!
