Is that Mental Ray or the Maya software renderer?
Anyway, if you're using Mental Ray, I believe that what you want to do is try increasing your sampling settings. The production quality contrast thresholds ought to be enough to increase sampling on that edge.
If you're using the Maya software renderer, the production quality contrast thresholds don't look like they are enough to kick up the sampling on that edge. You might try, first, going to the "Contrast-sensitive production" settings, and if that doesn't do it, try lowering the threshold a bit more, then fiddle with the multi-pixel filter settings.
The presets make great starting points, but to be able to get great renders you'll have to learn what all the controls do and use them to their best advantage.
Resist the urge to crank everything up all the way, because getting decent render times is important too... the trick is to try changing settings one at a time, and if you see no improvement, go back to the preset and try something else. Ultimately, what you want are the least quality settings that will get you the look you need, and that may vary depending on the scene...
Also, note that there are some render quality settings that can be set per-object or per-light, such as area light sampling and depth map settings. If you can fix a problem by changing per-object or per-light settings you're in better shape because it will slow down your render a lot less.
