I've been trying to animate a character and it's been pretty slow going. I've done the ususal (turn off HN, backface culling, isoparm in editor view, open GL on/off, etc) but it was still slow. When I wanted to move, say, the foot null in the Y direction, I would click on the null's y axis and move it up. It took a secod or so to catch up with my movements. Kind of a pain. BUT, I just noticed that if I click off the X and Z axes in the tool bar, use the move tool and drag in the editor window, the movement is instant! That's great! My question: Why? Why is there a difference?

I'm sure there's a simple explanation that I'm missing...

... well i think is a matter of calulation tha CPU have to do...
i suggest u to build a low poly character reference for your animation, than just use the hi res one when rendering!!

thatīs allways a good suggestion

keep it lo-po or make dummy
the challenge with lo-poly is to make the skin still move soft at the joints/ancles even when it is reduced ... there you can learn a lot abbout modelling for animation: )

Iīm allways stunned how fast the happy ship tutorial mime (frenchman) runs in the editor window

my characters are allways so much slower:shrug:
