I've been trying to work with render layers in Maya and some issues that I can't go around appeared.

First of all I'm rendering a sort of sphere shape that has a transparency driven by a ramp. The problem is that I'm not being able to get that transparency showing in my alpha. All I get is the sphere shape 100% white on the alpha channel, no transparency at all.

I also used a Image Based Lighting to get some nice reflections on this sphere, but it seems on my render layer that there isn't anything like a reflection pass. Is there any other way to go around and get a pass for the reflections? What workaround this should I use?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

you can use the open EXR file format and if you're using maya 2009 or 2010 you can select which passes you want ie shadow, specular, transparency etc and it will all be rendered out in a single exr file. Nuke or AECS4 are the only 2 apps that I know of that can read EXR and capable of accessing these passes in the file. Make sure you uncheck premultiply and use the RGBA (half) 4x16 as the output so that is isn't a huge 32bit floating point file.

also rendering in layers you must create a render layer override and it MR will render that pass in a separate folder outside maya/images/layer1. or you must have render all layers selected in your globals.
