Right, this time I want to actually finish something so please nag the hell out of me, I want to feel lot's of shame if I don't finish.
I do have a weeks holiday in the middle but the challange is long enough for that not to matter.

First thoughts:
Lizard Man
Anatomical normal human but with lizard skin. I like this idea because I need to get better at UV mapping a human and this would give me a suitably tough texture challenge.
The only thing is, is this idea inside the rules? Or does he have to have something else wrong with him as well?

Go for it Clanger! Scale him up good! Can we see flakes of scales coming off him? I want to see flakes! Flake him good!:D

Hey cool idea, go for it. People with that kind of skin were in fact exposed in Sideshows.

If this can help --> http://www.skinsite.com/info_ichthyosis.htm
(this was the disease "alligator men/women " had)

Good luck!:wip:

erilaz:
And I've just had my lunch!

m@.: Thanks for that link, I had heard of the condition just never seen it before. I think I need to make it more extreme though.

Clanger: a man with literal lizard skin would be contrary to the rule that the character be genetically human. however, the above skin condition that somewhat resembles the pattern of lizard skin is well within the rules.

LyonHaert: I know what you mean, just how freaky can you go before it's not human enough?
I think I'll keep my options open and see how extreme the majority go.

For now here's an idea down on paper, I need to do more than just skin so some of his features will be lizard like as well, how far I'll go is up in the air right now.

You could make him more amphibious - and add webbing between his fingers and toes. That's also a known birth defect, I believe (two toes on each foot of mine were webbed as a kid).

timothyD: I like that idea, more amphibian it is. Now we need a prop for him to hold I got a final pose in my head.
He'll be siting on a stool all dark except for a spot light (have to check 1840 lighting) the prop will be a fish bowl with him looking into it wondering which world he really belongs too.

digital_rhino, DimitrisLiatsos, JamesMK Thanks for the encouragement, I'm going to need lot's

I like the initial idea, but push it even more. Right now he looks like a cheesy version of the comic book character Savage Dragon.
Try thinking about what kind of clothes he wood wear. If he would have hair or not. How regular would the skin be? Patchy or all over? What kind of body would he have? Now he is the strong man lizard. He could have more of a reptilian appearance. He could be lean with bugged eyes and sinuous muscles.
Just keep going and get away from cliché.

Good luck.

KOryH: Food for thought there. I'd never heard of Savage Dragon before, now after a search I see what you mean. I'll make sure there's no resemblance.
Should be easy as I'm going more for the amphibian look now. So toad like skin will be the order of the day. I bet there's one of those out there as well!!!
Muscle size? I like the sound of sinuous muscle but I really want to build someone with some serious muscle. The plan was to do that in the last challenge but I didn't manage to place a single polygon!!
Clothes I'm not sure about I need to search for something suitable.

Thanks for the very constructive crit.

nice concept and sketch. I look forward to see it in 3D. This will be a pretty challenging to texture i guess.

He's now more Toad than Lizard, with very lumpy skin. Somehow I'll try and make his face toad like as well just don't know how extreme to go, I'll play around when I've some real 3D to work on.
As was the practice in Side shows he'll have make up to enhance the toad apperance (oiled skin, green colour)

normally I build things poly by poly but this time I thought I'd give the build a rough shape and refine it approach a try.

As timothyD sugested I'd like to give this guy webbed fingers and toes. Has anyone got any idea how the hell you would rig something like this. My first thought is using a cloth simulator, good idea?

great job so far with the character development and the modeling (so far). I don't know enough to give you any tips on the webbed skin, but I was thinking for the texture, you might consider making it all slimy and oily, a disformed skin like that would probably result in unusual secretions.

I love the idea of the fish bowl. Good work so far! Looking forward to the finished product. As far as the lighting, I think you mentioned 1840 but the first lightbulb was 1879. So maybe candlelight would be more appropriate. Or set it later in the century...

Clanger

kevinfrompng: Oh yes, slimy and oily is the order of the day.

markw7: hmmm... no lightbulbs, I'll have to make some sort of oil lamp or perhaps gas light? Thinking about it, even if they were well inside light bulb invention I bet they would be way behind. I can remember seeing gas mantles in use in the 60's! That's the 1960's not 1860 I'm old but not that old.

Small update:

Yeah, I didn't mean to sound all know-it-all about the electricity, but come to think of it, a lot of these shows travelled and set up in dirt fields, so they probably weren't plugged in till sometime into the 20th c. I just thought candlelight or gas light (cool!) might suggest an interesting style.

Clanger

markw7: Yeah, gas light it is.

Update, muscles still need lot's of sculpting but just to prove I haven't given up :)
