Howdy again everybody,
I need to creat a single polygon from a series of curves I have drawn/imported. Can anybody give me some direction as to how this is accomplished in Maya. In LTw I just select my points and say, make poly..... I suspect it is equally easy in Maya. I just don't know how.

Thanks
Mikie

there are a few modelling methods to get a poly surface out of curves. it really depends. for instance, if you have four border curves you can use surfaces boundary (just turn on polygon in the options). look at the surface menu in modelling.

if you can specify what curves you have and what kind of surface you want. then i could help a bit more

My curve was built using the ev curve tool. Don't ask me why I used this tool. I just found it and started curving, don't know if it is the best one or not.
I am trying to create an irregularly shaped surface (straight edges and curved edges) to build a product box. My theory is that I am creating the art flat (just as the printed piece would look before folding and die cutting) and apply a UV map for the surface. Once that is done, I will cut my poly in the right spots and rotate them to literally fold the box in 3d. I fear I may have started down the wrong path with these curves. I didn't realize they were nurbs and now I need to generate a polygonal surface and dispose of my nurbs stuff.
Suggestions here would be great!
Miguel

:) ok at first. there are no poly curves or something in maya. but you can dra a curve in any degree. so if you select degree 1 it's like poly. i also think that you've got the wrong way. i really would go into the help of maya for poly modelling. believe me, it's the best help out there for maya and will really help you.

it's always hard to give a real help if you don't see the problem or the thing you wanna do. so that's all i can do for you. but ask if you have more specific problems.

p.s. take a look at the create polygon, extrude face and split poly tool. these are the most powerfull ones.

Thanks,
I tried the create poly tool, which is probably where I should have started anyway. By checking the Maya help, I assume you mean the right click on a menu item? Or are you refering to my manual?
I appreciate your input, I know my questions are pretty vague. I'm about three days in on this app and the only other guy here who would know even a little about it is now gone. I'm on my own!!!!
Look out Gnomon workshops, here I come!!!!

I think one stumbling block your going to run into with maya's nurbs curves are that you cannot create a curve that has both hard corners and smooth corners... Download the EzCurve plugin here : http://www.highend3d.com/maya/plugins/?section=modeling#1481

It'll be a big help.
