I have been away from painting for a while getting set in for college. I decided to come back in color. so here is a wip thread of my first color piece. Any tips on what colors work/dont work would be great. This is just a color test at stage 1 trying to figure out what will go good only doing color no value at this step.

I kind of got side tracked for a couple days decided to start roughing out a new piece. Just bought painter 11 that's why I decided to start a new picture trying to figure out how the brushes generally work.

I think you start in the wrong end of things. Try start with only value (black and white) and then do the colors. Keep at it!

Thanks for the reply, some people work in value first I used to only work in value. This in most cases is slower and adds an extra step, also the image doesnt come out as colorful in my opinion. It all depends on the situation, but I am trying to start and end in color just practice for the most part. Anyways here is an update.

I understand that you want your workflow to go faster and your final images to be more colorful, but your biggest problem here is that your values are weak. Without value reinforcing your depth of field, these images are visually confusing; they just look like random blocks of color. In the lower half of the image, I'm not even sure what I'm looking at or how the physics are supposed to work. I also recommend that you try to render this image in black and white before you move on to color.
