View Full Version : Whats settings do you all use for mi_photographic_exposure?
techmage 09-25-2009, 09:52 PM I'm not a photographer. So I don't really understand all the film iso and shutter speed parameters beyond just adjusting them to get the right exposure. So I was curious, is there some special exposure quality that can be achieved by properly adjusting film iso, shutter speed and f number? Or does putting it into arbitrary mode (film_iso 0) and only using the cm2 factor allow you to essentially produce the same exact exposure quality, but with only 1 parameter? Whats the point of the seperate iso, shutter and f parameters then? And would any of you be willing to share what you use?

The thing that helped me the most was the advice of the noble ytsejam1976.
I set my cm factor to 3180. The ISO is left at 100, Film speed is 16 and the F number is 10.
My saturation is 1.2.
That's where I start and tweak from there.

thanks for the info guys
I just did some tests and found that
cm2 factor 3180
film iso 100
shutter 35
f number 10
produces the EXACT same result as
cm2 factor 1
film iso 0
film iso 0 means its in arbitrary mode, so only cm2 factor controls exposure
so I guess the non-arbitrary mode does not offer any improved quality, its just 4 different parameters to produce the same result as in arbitrary mode

after screwing around with this a bunch, I just said forget it and do my 32-bit EXR tonemapping, colour treatment and film feel in Nuke.
