View Full Version : 2d painting: Trouble
PaxtonGerrish 08-11-2003, 02:35 AM This is a painting of a girl i met last spring. (my first painting in 3 years) as I suspected she turned out to be trouble. so i guess its a good thing that she blew away in the breeze.

I really like the piece. Perhaps it's just my over-strained eyes, but did you add a PS filter? If so, I'd get rid of it. It kinda detracts from the piece.

I love the face, but hate the cartoon bubble with a passion. She has some great looking eyes, even if they are identical.

Personal opinion I guess, but it makes me think of Lichtenstein and Warhol and all that pop art of the 50-60. Personally think they did more to kill the art movement than the Dadaists. As far as I am concerned they can all KMA. But like I say, just a personal opinion.

Dunno. I kinda like it.
Besides all that, I really like it. Alot. Like, more than somewhat, but less that a ton. :D
I think you did a smashing job on it, and I'd make sure to keep it handy as a portfolio piece.
Keep it up, bro. Let's see some more soon.
Oh, and keep your PSD files next time!!!

I'm surprised to find someone here that thinks the same way as me about pop art movement... :surprised But then again, not all pop art was that fake and comic book like, lichtenstein has some really interesting abstractions or semi-abstractions.
As for the drawing here, I think it's great... but that filter you used kinda ruined it... u_u Too bad you can't update it now! You should try this style another time.

i agree with some ppl, the bubble and the filter are , not needed, in any way.
if you could soften it up just a teeeny bit and crop off the left side or fix up the bottom left of her body (im unsure of whats going on there) itd be, well,
i think the bubble and the filter not only distract but undermine the artistry in the work.

Lost the bubble, Softened it a bit, and cropped it.. I still like the bubble, sorta adds nostalgia for me. like shes asking "care for some trouble?" heh heh

One more personal opinion, (sorry, I know this thread is swimming with my personal opinions) But if the character does not say what you want her to with her eyes, then adding a bubble to help people achieve the statement won't truely tell the story either.

I like the framing of the first version. The bubble doesn't bother me in itself... just being a bubble. But it doesn't jive as well with the rest of the style. Can you keep the same compostion and still lose the bubble? Or maybe make merge it more with the rest? Sorry I can't give examples, I'm not that skilled. Workin' on it!
Regardless, your treatment of the face is great. It feels water-colory at parts and I really dig that!

Thanks for your comments.. amo_77
and yea im beginning to agree about the bubble being kind of cheezy, but i guess i wasnt really taking myself too seriously when painting it... but Iv recently been inspired to start painting again, and am buying a palate this weekend.. expect more to come, and maybe il take the next one more seriously
