View Full Version : Importing PolyColors in EI?
AVTPro 09-25-2009, 02:30 AM Can I combine multiple geometry objects that has different colors into one mesh and import the single object with multiple colors into EI?
Object not faces? thanks

Hi Alonzo,
I always leave geometries which I want to have different materials or colours assigned to
in EI as single parts. If you bring it in as one geometry I doubt that you can control the
parts you want to look different. Some time ago I had the idea to use the polygon tool
for that purpose but it didn`t work the way I had imagined...search for the thread if you like.
What I do very often is to "combine" or "join" multiple geometries which I plan to have the same material in my model software to groups before importing them.
Very useful if you have CAD-models consisting of hundreds of parts.
But then EI will always handle that group as one model.
May be (I hope...) someone will prove me wrong...

Thanks for your feedback. It is much appreciated. But maybe I should clarify.
I primarily want to know "is it possible". Can EI see or even import combined color group.
I guess my question is does EI even have the functionality to see colored polys that is not a single mesh.

Hi Alonzo,
in EI in a FACT file each vertex can have a 24bit (32?) color. If you have a software, that can write such FACTs no problem. If you have a group insider EI you can use colorizer to paint on it. It very nice for reactive shaders.

Thanks Jen, Tom.
Yes, just wanted to know if I assigned color to a group in maya and import into EI as and FBX or Obj if it can retrain the color.
I guess I forgot. Amorphium use to be able to paint color verts to an object and EI could import the color and as you say it can then be used to affect shaders. thanks.
This is a project I had two days to do. 3 rigs and 3 animation 3 secs each. its a simple character that worked perfect with my ReadyRigs Deformer Rig Tutorial DVD.
The client was wondering if I could have painted them and single meshed them for BVH or Mocap. I know a texture UV would work as a single mesh but since it was so simple polypaint out of ZB should work too.
Gotta try that. Thx

Hey I just show you guys this. David, who does a lot of my rendering did this test render of the project with the use of Photon in EIAS v8.
This is purely a test render, and the time per frame is too long for animation but I thought it was work a looksie.

Also I want to say, this project was an idea axample of how the AVTPro's ReadyRig Deformer Rig DVD is still a functioning value to EIAS animators. There wasnt enought time for the purchaser of the DVD to learn in a day but still the point is character like these are needed and the rigs are functional.
It's still selling for $85. Opps almost forgot I'm uploading.

BTW I rigged and animated all 3 of these these in EIAS in 2 days. However this is not the final animation. I'm sure the client tweaked and rerendered.

Hi Alonzo,
it looks very nice, would be curious to see the animation.
How did you do it with your painting/texturing in the end ?
Single meshes, UVs or did it work with poly-painting somehow ?
(I guess your question above was concerning this project)

Hey Tom,
there's a youtube link in the previous post. If I get the final animation I'll post.
The client was mapping FBX to the men and wanted them as one skin object, but when I imported into EI it lost the color. I did a UV test which workd but was time consuming for the dealine. I believe the client just went with these instead of the fbx. The color men are Davids test, the men are B/W only. Thx.

More AVTPro's ReadyRigs Deformer Rig Tutorial DVD in action with Lego Mini Men. I did not do all of these animations. Just the puzzle.

Here's a character rig I created utilizing AVT Pro's ReadyRig CD. I never rigged before and Alonzo explained how to character rig in EIAS in a way that made it easier to find out what you were doing wrong.
My character, The Wute:

The AVT Pro rigging tutorials were recommended to me today by more than one person, and I would like to publicly say a huge thanks to Alonzo for his expertise and his kindness; he quickly supplied me with the right answers to a problem that's been vexing me for days... I bought his DVD tutorials - a great value - and I want to urge all of you that haven't yet to do the same!

Thanks Peter. I'm honored. Saw your portfolio. WOW!!! Would love to help you rig some of your character.
Also, you were the second person that contacted me yesterday. I sold another ReadyRigs deformer DVD in the UK.
Interesting thing is both of you only needed custom technical support which I offer a couple of hours for people who have questions about the DVD.
However, most artist and designer need specific help with a project. So when purchaser buy the DVD via paypal I offer technical direction with their current project. So folx if you just need tech support and not a "work for hire" I can offer an hour "on any rig project or Rig" as a service with the purchase of the DVD. After the first one or two hour (give or take) additional time can be purchsed for the same rate as the DVD (my hourly).
Also as with a previous purchase last week, if you just need me to do the rig, or don't have time. Sign me up. This is what I do anyway. Rig and some artist animate or sometimes I animate. The client get the EIAS source file for their rendering.
My hope is that my expertise becomes common or at least accessible knowlege for EIAS users to take any finished film or Pre-Vis work.
Thanks again Everyone and check out my new free tutoral.
Lastly I will be doing a HUMAN RIG but really trying to keep it simple. Most people just need a fast rig to get their bid outs and invoice in.
EIAS is a fast CA TOOL ALL DAY!!! Lots of Mograph Designers would like expand the gamut of their services. CA with EIAS is the way to click ANOTHER NOTCH on the 3D meter.
Much Success and God Bless.
