View Full Version : hardware rendering and CG shaders, same thing?

Hi All,

I need to do some quick animations of mechanical concepts. I'd like to do some hardware renderings to save rendering time.
I downloaded the CgFx plugin for Maya 5.0 from the Nvidia site (I have a quadro fx 700 card)

I'm not sure if assigning these shaders will work for rendering using hardware rendering or do I use instead hardware rendering with regular maya lights and shaders. There's very little documentation about this so I'm not sure if these two things work together or are different alternatives.

Anybody knows?

Thanks

basic maya shaders will look very good in hardware rendering..
but for effects like falloff or so (which usually have to be calculated with the sampler node), you will need the CG shaders as far as i understand about it (never had the time to really test that).

cheers
