hey all

I was kinda wondering what the best way is to make dust/powder

with this I mean like, a pile of it, not just some flat texture

how is this best achieved?

I was thinking about apha channels or something, but I have no idea how to begin with something like that, could anyone explain this to me, or guide me to a good tut for this

really appreciate it:beer:

Hi,

you could try the Particle Target plugin by Paul Everett to emit particles from a surface.

you can also check DirtyNuts, though this won't produce volume on your surface.

you can find both in the plugin cafe.

how big of a pile are we talking and does it need to move?

well about the size of a coke line, lol:p
and it's just a still, so no moving involved

So you automatically assume I'd know how big a coke line is eh what are you suggesting geez of all the no just kidding.

Well if it is a still and not animated then why not model and use procedurals, seems the best method to me. When is this needed I have a really cool idea for this using SLA but won't have time for a week or so.

hehe, nono don't trouble yourself, it isn't for any project or anything like that, I'm just exploring the wonders/possibilities of the world that is called Cinema 4D;)

YEah, I think a model with some creative texturing should do it. SLA has so many possibilities, I get totally lost in it.

Now why are you making a line of coke in the virtual world?

Hi,

I suggest you download TDEM from www.remotion.de.vu and take a look at its examples.
BTW, I'm writing a TDEM manual that should be ready next week.

PS: Nice icon, Guybrush! (I'm ashamed I haven't played Monkey4 yet!)

I am ashamed I haven't played any of the Monkey games.....or am I proud? Anyways, yeh check out the Tdem plug and possibly using metaballs, particle friction and some SLA......haven't tried for dust but particles along a spline (or spline as a target) will get the result I am sure!

PS, the paint is not on the table I KNOW!

Second thoughts it may be easier to use some creative Displacement mapping.....? You ever notice how sometimes you are so intent on getting the result with one method you forget there may be a simpler way......D'OH!
