View Full Version : Certain Death lipsync critiques appreciated
JMaple 09-23-2009, 08:05 PM I feel like this is a good start, however, I keep thinking there is to little going on, or rather that the bodies in my lipsync are too stagnant. Either way I still felt that this was a decent time to get a critique before I moved on.

This can be funny in the end :). Right now the posing feels like it is a bit too much. I think you'd get more out of the characters if you focused on subtle movements and just peaked the animation at certain times.
Have you tried to film yourself acting it out? That'd give you a good start to make them appear more unique in character. Or maybe you have footage of the voice actors? Have fun!

Thank=you for the critique. I had reference for both characters, two different people. I got a general vote on keeping the movements to a minimum but some felt it was too boring. So maybe a possible compromise? The second cut keep the character more subtle keep the motion in the third cut perhaps?

Hey
when the character puts the cup on the table its too slow with no wight. he also puts it on the table with his palm facing away from us which is very odd. rotate it so his palm is facing us.
second 4 and 5 have no animation. there should be a little movement at least. He also puts his hand behind there chair a little too fast.
at the end the guy with the white shirt looks like his right wrist is bending too far back during the woooo part.
Good Luck!

Lots of great stuff going on here. I really like the concept. Here are just some ideas over all after watching it quite a few times. I agree with Ustel3Dman about the first shot being way too floaty and awkward with his palm facing away from us. I would totally take that shot out. In a reel review it would be more if a "what was that, did he just break his arm"? but in a review they would not have time to go back and watch it again. Having him messing with the dice/cup in another shot may add something too. As if he were to threw the dice on "doors". Either way I would really look at dropping the first shot or just really spending a lot of time going through and working on the over lap and or successive breaking of joints for his torso/neck/head body in that shot and also the palm that was mentioned.
I know you are in the early phases and think this is a great time to be posting for crits. If you keep the point at "doors" make sure and get the secondary poses in there so he overshoots with the point and comes back and settles into that point pose.
The shot is off to a great start with the over all concept and subtle movements. Love the ending!

I back tracked a lot, I didn't see a anyone posting for a long time so I hadn't taken into consideration your critiques because I didn't know they were there! I just restarted.

Thank-you everyone who replied!!!
With the issue of the dropping the first portion I really didn't want it to begin with however, it seemed like it was needed to get the point across that they were playing a game of some sort. I would love to drop that 2 second beginning especially since its so long. Putting the dice throw in that beginning portion sounds great and I don't think I made that section any better with my second way through anyways.
