I'm going through the help docs learning modo at home and thinking of purchasing that or Silo for work. one of my major beef's with modo is i have to be in the 'object' mode to toggle my sub d display? is that the only time i'm able to toggle this?

i'm super new to modo still, but i use XSI at home and it has the best work flow from the other programs ive used, max and maya. i hear people talking about how modo is alot different to new users and it takes getting use to, but some of the stuff ive done through the docs seems totally backwards in being modeling friendly. but that's my biggest gripe right now, i can only toggle sub d by being out of the modeling mode thing (calling that object mode)???

You are using the "Tab" key right?

tab yeah, but i mean i use xsi at home and if i press the tab equivalent it dont matter what component mode i have on it will subdivide. in modo, if i have a few faces selected it will sub d only that? so instead i have to make no selection in order to see things right? that makes no sense to me.

You're right, nothing has to be selected in order for everything to subdivide. It used to annoy me but got used to it. You can use the subPatchKeepSel script to get around this issue: on this page (http://vertexmonkey.com/scripts_modeling_selection.php)
Just map the script to the TAB key to override the original command ( I had it on shift+tab, for some unknown reason ) and you're good to go. I don't have modo at home to test it on 401 but it should still work.

P.S. I use Modo and Silo together and they complement each other very well, it doesn't necessarily have to be one or the other especially considering silo's price.
