View Full Version : Tracking down rendering errors in MR

Hi folks,

Couple questions about rendering and MR:

I'm trying to render a model that I have but when I use Mental Ray to do it, I get some strange errors which I'm not sure how to track down. I get three "// Warning: (Mayatomr.Shader) : file __: no texture file referenced //" (where the file numbers are different) and I also get six "// Error: (Mayatomr.Shader) : no shader assigned in material //" type errors. Yet I'm at a loss on how to fix them. this model has like 60+ textures on it. How do I track down file135 (for example)? And what do I do about the no shader assigned errors?

Second question: Anti-aliasing issues: this has been an ongoing problem for me regardless of the render, but I'm going to ask to see if someone can help me get my settings dialed in better. Basically when I use production settings on either Maya renderer or MR, I always have to trade off good edge antialiasing with sharp images, but I can't seem to find both. When I set the settings high, edges look good but all my textures (and the image for that matter) get blurry beyond acceptablility. set them too low and the ssharpness looks awesome, but my model edge has severe jaggies on every edge of the model. And it seems that where one extreme ends , the other doesn't begin. in other words, I can't seem to maintain the quality of one aspect before the other aspect starts improving. I've been trying to get this figured out for literally months and still I can't figure out hot to set the render globals to get a decent rendering :( Admittidly, I'm used to using to MAX's renderer which never left me running in circles tothis degree

Can someone offer some constructive guidance on these problems?

hey JasonA. I've gotten that error before. It appeared when I was using a scene that had a refrenced object in it. You might want to also go into your hypershade and click file>delete unused nodes(to clean up any materials that might be left in your scene) Is your model the original scene or have you refrenced it into another scene. As far as AA goes, from what I understand you should set your samples to 1 and 3 to achieve well balanced AA.

Is any of your files in TIFF format?....i find MR having problems sometimes with TIFF textures..even i have double checked that they do not have LZW compresion on them...
