does 3d painting work good in cs4?
what advantaeges does it offer when compared to 3d painting in bodypaint 3d or zbrush?

I thought it worked pretty well when I used it, the main advantage over other packages being that you have access to all of Photoshop's brushes and features - which personally I think are much more powerful than those in Bodypaint. Photoshop's brush engine is much more powerful.

The main drawback is that in Bodypaint you can paint on multiple channels at once (like diffuse and bump together), which you can't do in Photoshop.

You also have the ability to use Photoshop's adjustment layers and filters. Plus the advantage of saving out the texture immediately from photoshop etc.

While you don't/can't do bump/displace maps - I have a feeling that will be in the works.

> have a feeling

I would hope it is, but will repeat an old caution that seems to have fallen out of favour...

. . . Don't buy vapour.

Oh, and I'd like to point out Detailer did that so long ago I can't even make the software run on this computer.

Sometimes I wish Adobe would just go out, buy a copy of Deluxe Paint (Animate) and a copy of... oh, I don't know Painter 5.5 and get with the program.

:-)
