Please no crits on the scene itself. Lots of things left to be done to it.
But the character is done. Im using Maya2009 and I keep getting these weird artifacts only on the feet. I have the toon border edges on (also known as toon outline, or a paint effects toon shape) . I have systematically gone through every setting for it and nothing removes these little squares. I don't get it.

You can see it on the characters left foot and especially on the close up. I've also checked to make sure everything is smoothed. The geometry is normal, no cuts or anything.
Any suggestions?

I had similar issues with Max' Ink 'n Paint Material. They were connected to the Smoothing Groups (Vertex Normals..). Although the edges were soft, they produced Outlines...amending the Threshold resolved it...

But I ditched the Ink 'n Paint Material and used the Toon Shader by David Lanier (http://www.dl3d.com/index.php/en/tutorials/tutorial-cartoon-shader-contourshader-maya-mentalray.html) instead. It worked better and faster. Also available for Maya ;).

Oh that is a tight shader!
I might redo the scene with that :P
I've just been using a Digital Tutors tutorial and the regular ramp shader lol

How do I amend the threshold? do you mean on the model? or is there a setting in paint effects?

edit: oh i see you said Vertex normals. I tried that but it did not work. Put threshold to 0 and texture threshold to 0 too.

blarg :( Thanks for the input though, I appreciate it!
