To insert material into a plane
1. Select your plane
2. Right click, > materials > materials attribute > color
3. click icon box on the right side of color slider > select file > Image Name

To insert Image as Image Plane
1. View > Image Plane > Import Image
http://www.geocities.com/zigaretos/implane.txt

Note : Don't forget to turn on smooth shading display and hardware texturing :)

I used to map my references to the orthographic
cameras.
But now I actually find it a bit easier just to make nurbs
planes and map the refs as a color map onto them.
They are eaisier to adjust. Even rotate a bit, I case your
drawings aren't perfect. You can adjust the transparancy,
create a mel button for moving the planes outada way.
and put them on a layer as a reference.
It's just much easier IMO.

The only negative thing Ive found by useing NURBS planes is when you smooth shade everything then enable transparent the image/NURBS planes also go tranparent.

I can still see eveerything just fine but not the same as no tranparent.

Just a thought....
