Hi all, this is my first project in 3ds max (im using it 2 weeks now) (Ive used Truespace before.)

I just wanted to share it :) (And hopefully get some opinions on it.) :)

I hope to put it in some kind of jungle lake when its done, though I think that might be a little bit too advanced for me yet.

Well here are the pics:

when its finished I want to mirror the detailed floater with the one on the other side.

Too bad I had to work today, no time to work on this one....

Great work so far, would love to see a textured version if you go that far with it. Keep it up :applause:

Good morning :)

Here is a very quick preview (without the turbines on the back) http://www.powergraphics.nl/groenwit.jpg

Thx for the comments, Ive textured most parts of the model for a "quick" test render. I started the render last night, and hoped it would be finished this morning. Sadly its not (I guess 90% was done), so if im back from my work I will post the pic. I think the triple layered procedural shader of the main hull is doing this.

Still a lot of detail to add, I agree with Martypt it does not really feels like a model from another time. Maybe im too much down to earth, maybe its because most parts of the boat are from this world, wich is easier to model. :)

I didn't have much time to work on it, wich is really frustrating.

I like it more and more :D I only noticed a very tiny "problem" that you might want to fix : at the very front, where the machine gun appear, it would maybe be nice if you slightly extruded the edges inward to give a little thickness to the pannel :) It's not very important but it's the only "bad" critic I can do :)

I agree, the front needs more detailing, and I will solve that issue :)

Clawhammer,

Thanks for sharing! The model looks awesome. I was wondering, why did it take you all night to render? Ask around and there might be a few ppl that can help you cut down on the render time. BTW, did you use GI for the lighting, or is this a default in Max? (I'm a Maya user, sorry)

keep up the good work,

Lu

The textured model above took about 20 minutes to render. (sorry for the confusion)

The one below did take all night (on 1280x960)

http://www.powergraphics.nl/render1.jpg

have some trouble with the alpha mapping, but will study that tonight.

I'm experimenting with the GI and other light settings within Brazil. The spherical enviroment is the only light source. I think I need some kind of sunlight system. Anyway this is the wrong enviroment for this boat, (too clean, too bright and too calm.)

When I have finished the model, I will make a good enviroment. Im still learning 3ds (this is my third week). I'm trying to skill everything up at the same speed. Well and it stays fun like this.

Thx for the c&c's !

Mark

P.s. Ive have some trouble aligning the camera so the object is centered :D This is because I think in the truespace way, where the complete screen is scene, with menus below and above, (not right and left). Will adapt myself :)

For the camera you have two tools that should help you :) First you can press shift + F to have the render zone appearing on screen and you can also select a viewport and press C to see through the camera :) I hope it helps and sorry for my English :D

BTW, don't know why but I could easily imagine a Capitain Nemo of a near future using your vehicle :)

Great! thx for the tips (the camera one I did know but the other might come in handy )

That last point was kind of where I was looking for!

Well here are 2 little updates: I did some work on the back (made a door and some other detailing stuff on the rear deck.

http://www.powergraphics.nl/achterkant.jpg

And here is a pic with 85% texture on it,

http://www.powergraphics.nl/texture1.jpg

I need some comments about the hull texture, not sure if its ok. I cant decide what camouflage I want. Not this one that's for sure, the thing will be floating around in a friggin rain forest/amazon river..... :)

I'm in the need for some critics too ! espcially on detailing, Ive made a checklist, wich is 50% checked, maybe I could put more points on the list. (My brain is quite drained......) Thx !

Mark

p.s. the flag on the second map had no alpha channel, but Ive figured it out now.

Like i would say it in swedish; Jävligt fint!

I really like your Swamp Strider =) I loved the all night render =) but you are right, it looks alittle bit too clean for a rainforest ;)

Keep up the great work! I want to see mooooorE! =))
