View Full Version : 1st try at modeling human body!!
graphixphanatix 08-10-2003, 06:15 AM I am fairly new to 3d graphics and this is my first attempt at modeling the human figure. This is just the torso. I would like some feedback and / or tips from some of the talent here in the forum.

Starting to look good, I would like to see the wireframe. If you plan to advance from just modeling to animating or even passing your models to others to animate you should spend a great deal of time understanding how the model works in wireframe. A pretty model can be good on the outside, but as soon as you start moving it, it can fall to pieces.
Looking good so far, I would like to see more definition.

I've been checking some other wires paying attention to detailed areas. I do plan on using the model with some poses not a complete animation. But I would appreciate it if you could point me to some good references on what you mean when you say "understanding how models work in wireframe". -- jrwell

There are obviously a thousand and one tutorials, but one of my favorites can be found at this link: http://www.3dtotal.com/team/Tutorials/mahf/mahf_01.asp This one is very good because it does not deal strictly with the look of the body, but more about the muscles underneath, which are far more important when you plan to animate. This tutorial is focused on the female form, but if you are only interested in the male form I would suggest you check it out and if you like his style, check out his book.
