I have a seed, now i want to make an animation of the stem growing upwards from the seed, then leaves to the sides, and as the stem goes up and up and reaches the end, the flower is growing and opening.

how should i approach this?

morph animation?
thinking particles?
some "grow" plugin i dont know about? :)

i know it can be done in houdini with some scripting but i'm not a scripter and i dont know houdini that well.

thanks for any help you can give me on this subject.

The way that I did it goes like this.
Create a line and circle and use loft to make a cylinder. Then, in the modifier panel, open the deformations rollout and click on scale. Add a couple of control points and then animate them over time to make the thickness of the vine/stem/stalk/root.
Make another line that will be the shape of the plant when it is finished.
Apply "Path Deform (WSM)" to the loft and click the button move to path.
Orient the vine/stem correctly then animate percent and stretch values over time.

Here's a file done in 2010 so you can see what I'm describing.
