View Full Version : How often do you animate with IK/FK arms?
FalseCathedral 09-20-2009, 08:41 AM I'm wondering if most of you use mostly one or the other, or a combination of the two. I've been using mostly IK arms, but it's been a huge hassle to get them to arc and behave naturally. What is your ik/fk workflow?

They both have their place. That's why they persist to this day.
FK is great for large arcing motions that have a natural origin around the shoulder or elbow.
IK is easier for small arcs that do not center on a large joint, such as the motions a hand makes while writing on blackboard.
And of course IK is almost mandatory for situations where a hand must remain stuck in one spot or follow a straight surface.
