View Full Version : Mental Ray, how to generate caustics in maya ?

If you want to use caustics you're going to need to go under the mental ray tab in the animation shelf. In there you will see "global illumination and caustics" click on that and you will need to enable caustics. It's right above the option for global illumination. That is if you're using 3.0 or better. Haven't messed with anything earlier than that. Also, you'll need to go into your light sources (select the light and press ctrl + A) and you should see a drop down for Mental Ray. Choose that and see if you see any options for caustics on the light. I know that it has it for GI in the light but I don't think it does for the caustics on the light.

Change in shader attribute -> reflected color from black to white.
