View Full Version : 2D Char: From the Darkness
MakoHaze 08-10-2003, 03:05 AM Just a character concept I drew up for a friends who was writing a story... nothing too fancy, but some Comments and Crits would do nicely :D

Before anyone says anything, the hair and the eyes were requested to be exactly that way - I do realize that it looks a little off, but he was too have long bangs in the front, hanging over his eyes, that glow red through the veil of hair.

Well, it was to be in anime-ish stylings, and sort of a near-cel shading colour style, so that's why his colours seem somewhat flat and also why his proportions are stretched. I wasn't really going for realism... he's a villain, so I figured I'd make him somewhat lanky (plus he was in a coffin for a millenia, so muscular distrophy would kick in as well :D)
Anything else?

Looks good overall. The neck is a bit simple, there should be better defined musculature (not necessarily bigger, just better defined) and the mouth looks a little...well...Beavis & Butthead. If he's grinning that much I would expect to see some gums. Everything else is great, including that cool red umbrella he's holding; looks like real satin.

Oh, my bad. It's a bloody sword.

I like it allot.
Why not try to push yourself pose wise. Now that you've got the design down - lets see a dramatic action shot or something that get's us inside the character's head. Use some cool perspective - it's the composition of the shot that needs work.
Otherwise, well done

A few notes/observations:
-Left forearm is larger than right.
-Judging by the guy's complextion, the head should be a bit more...ummm...thinner?
-You need to define more thr lightin and texture on the red shirt. --The current shad is way too soft and does not give me any feel of volume.
-A personal opinion: They hair covering his eyes does not look that cool, and in reality, its so annopying to have your view blicked by hair.
-Restating a pervious comment, the big sword looks more like a satin umbrella. It does look good as an umbrella, but its clearly not what you were you aiming at.
The rest is very good imo. :)
