Hello, I have a quick question for the people who have used photoshop CS4, 3d texturing application.

I have just started using the program, and overall it's very easy to pick up and use, but I have come to a really strange problem. If any one knows how to fix this, it would really be appreciated.

For some reason, when I texture the 3d object in Photoshop, I come into the problem where most of the texture IS painted down, but there are some parts of the object it refuses to paint. I tried the following:

1) Triple checked the UV's- all is fine, there is no overlapping, they are very neatly organized as well.
2) Zoomed in the camera(does a slight paint over the object that could not be painted, but eventually it doesn't do that anymore no matter how zoomed in you are).

After this, I really don't know what to do. If the UV's are fine, and it paints almost everything except those sections, I am at a loss. By the way, I used an obj to import the file.

Could it be my graphics card? I'm not sure.

Thanks again.

Well i didnt really understand your question, but here is how its usually done in 3ds max, if thats the software you are using.

1) Attach all parts of your model in the edit poly window
2) Add an "Unwrap UVW" modifier
3) Scroll down and click the EDIT button in the "Unwrap UVW" modifier modify window
4) Unwrap your model, i assume you know how to do this from your above post
5) Keep the "UV Edit" window open
6) Click "Tools" > "Render UV template" (i think thats it) up the top of the window
7) Save your template as a BMP or TGA file, at whatever size you want your texture to be
8) Open this template in Photoshop, make the template a base layer with 50-75% opacity
9) Do all painting on new layers
10) Save texture as a different file in case you have to scrap your whole texture and start again
11) Apply newly created texture in max

Hello again, sadly, I do not have 3D max, I have maya. Hmm...by the way you make it sound, it seems you are talking about the other way of doing textures. In maya CS4, there is a new thing where you can import the 3D object and paint on it, instead of the UV painting. I could misunderstand what you are saying though.

I'll see if I can reword it again. Basically when I import what I want to texture, there are parts of the object in witch I can paint in photoshop, and others that I can't, no matter how much I paint it.

For example, I bring in a 3D modeled face from photoshop. I can paint the face's forehead and chin, and cheeks(and it works), but I cannot paint(no matter how much I use the brush) the nose, lips, or ears at all.

As I said before, the UV's a perfectly set out.

I hope that clears things up for the people that might be confused, sorry I didn't explain myself better before.

If anyone knows maya that has encountered, or knows the exact problem, please let me know. Thank you very much.

Hi Deb,

I've been using the CS4 texturing tool a lot recently, and I've noticed the problem you're describing. Double checking/altering the UVs sometimes works, but I've found that painting directly on the flat texture layer that is part of the PSD is the easiest way around the problem.

I've also found the tool to be EXTREMELY buggy, it makes photoshop crash a lot. But as its so useful and makes texturing that much more enjoyable, that I think I'll suffer through it. ;)

HTH solve your problem.
