View Full Version : Motion Builder 4.04 PE Free on 3DWorld.
I hope this hasn't already been posted, but i bought the HULK issue of 3DWorld today and it came with a free personnal edition of Kaydara's Motion Builder 4.04. The software has a free one year liscence which can be upgraded to motion builder 5.0 permanent liscence for only 200$. But that offer only lasts to december 31,2003. Thats a pretty sweet deal. What do you think.

danb you must have missed some stuff bud...its a great deal.
do a search on this forum for motionbuilder...loads of great discussions...all about future use with cinema and various promotions by kaydara...
are you going for it then?
Yeah i guess i must have missed some stuff. I did search some things on Motion Builder in the forum but i didn't come across the 3d world thing. Anyways i am torn between MB and Messiah. MB offer seems perfect for me as a beginner freelancer. Although Messiah has built in dynamics, which i will need anyways. Also Messiah is going to support Muscle dynamics. Which hardly seems important now, after Kaiskai taught me how to use bones for muscle deformation in cinema, but I also want to get the most BANG for the buck. I am still undecided and i think i will wait to use the demo of messiah 4 before making my desicion. I mentioned awhile ago when i first frequented the forum that i was hoping to get some type of support for automated character walking. I am not sure if MB has this option and will look into it with the PE version i have. But i am positive Messiah is going to have this option in V4... And again it might just come down to who supports cinema first.

Hi Danb, if you're in the market I'd recommend having a look at the VTM's over at 3DBuzz for MotionBuilder - it's not exactly automatic walk-cycle (hell, poser can do that ;-) ) But it does look very impressive, and the bridge is apparently nearing completion... nearly...
As far as dynaimics goes, this of course depends on how the plugin returns it's data to Cinema for rendering, but assuming the bone structure remains intact you would be able to add Soft-IK via sub-bones off the main heirarchy, to control things like hair, bits of extraneous clothing, rolls of fat etc.
So far the story of Messiah for Cinema has been nothing but disappointment and broken promises, from what I can tell.

Thanks chrissyboy. I am starting to lean towards MB a little more. i got all the video tutorials with the pe version off of 3d buzz, i think. i will deffinately take another look at them. Kaydara's MB has and is gaining more support than messiah ever has, so i think that is another good aspect of MB. I study the soft ik option in cinema almost everyday so maybe by the time of my decision i will have a good understanding of them to use as dynamics. I was looking forward to the automatic walk cycles because it would speed up the generation of the basis for character animation walking/running etc. Well according to the 3dsorld mag, i have untill december to make a decision for motion builder. Right around christmas time. i better be good untill then.
see you later.
