Here is an image of the 'Space Jockey' inspired from the film ALIEN.

This depicts one on its home planet who's sun is a dying red giant.

The image was created in pencil, inked then scaned into Photoshop where I colored it. Now I see some problems long after finishing it that I didnt see before... (wind in bkgnd blowing different direction than foreground, etc...) but am still happy with the outcome. I used HR Gigers original design work, trying to stay true to it without painting it in the Giger airbrushy 'style'.

For some reason I am facinated with this concept and will probably explore some more variations of this character and its background. The idea of some extremely antient race with an advanced organic alien technology gets my creative juices going. This part of the 'ALIEN universe' has never been done before (to my knowedge) and I think it has great potential. Its just too bad it isn't my own idea but borrowed from ol' Giger. Well... I guess he must be used to it by now, all the horrible Giger rip-offs out there. I just hope this isn't viewed as another one.

Its good work, I like it. Course, I'm an Alien fan and the space jockey is one of those un-explored concepts from that flick/series.

Pic looks good, but didn't you post this already a few months back? it looks extrememly familiar. Nice job tho.

perhaps try redrawing the biomech from differentangles, this one seems a bit still in the perspective

you've captured the H.R.Giger style quite well, nice job:)

The image I posted a while back was a quick color sketch of the b&w illustration... not the involved photoshop piece you see here. In fact a suggestion on this forum ( or maybe it was conceptart.org) inspired me to go ahead and fully finish this piece and the background. The original just had a flat grey color-gradiation.

Thanks for the input! I think I will dive into how they can be incorporated into the technology. Seems like once you are commited to your job... like the space jockey was a pilot, you cant ever leave.

Dad: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

Son: "Hmmm... I think I want to be a lawnmower when I grow up"

:surprised

Yup. The space jockey was what the film crew called the fossilized character in the derilict in the original ALIEN film.
