Hello,
I am having problems with getting my head model and its 2 uv sets from Maya to mudbox.
The sets both contain all the faces/uvs of the model. The first is for the base texture and the second is for eyebrows, make up etc.
I did some searches and only found help on multiple uv sets like this:
http://www.pixelcg.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/uv-layoutv.jpg
Here it is one Maya set, but the uvs are spread over different tiles to mudbox will see them as seperate uv sets.
This is possible if you make uv sets for different parts of the model. But not when you are using 2 uv maps on the whole model because then you cant place the same uvs twice in one set ofc.

So I have 2 uv maps on the same faces and not 2 uv maps on 2 different parts of the mesh as explained in most tuts on this subject.

like this:

How can I get the model with both uv sets in Mudbox?

Thanks,
Boyo

use set2 and paint both into this uvs...
create two textures and use these in maya with a layered shader...

why do you need two uv sets of the same uvs..?
and why is there so much free space in uv set1...?

thx for the reply.
free space is for the rest of the body. 1 tex file for full body.
Set 1 is for the basic skin textures. I dont want skin texture in set2 because i need to be able to do different eyebrows and make up with that one. So i want that in a seperate texture/ uv map. If I was to do that in uvmap 1 then i would be wasting much uv space.

Only reason for set1 in mudbox is to see how my skin looks and my edits are right. So i dont have to go into maya to check it all the time. Now I baked the texture a from set1 to set2 but this isn't ideal. Because I have a lot of skin textures I need to check and dont want to bake them all.

any options?

Mudbox does not support multiple UV sets.

I am afraid you misunderstood the image you posted. Mudbox supports only 1 UV set on multiple tiles.

Maya support multiple UVsets , but has a very sophisticated way of connecting UVsets to different textures.

For your situation, you need to have 2 different heads, with 2 different UVs. Transfering the sculpt information is easy if the point order is the same.
