Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew how to resolve an issue in which you make a selection in photoshop with the marquee selection tool, or polygonal lasso tool for example, and while a selection is made, the dotted selection line that outlines what you selected does not.

I've gone through the options and can't find anything about enabling or disabling the selection line. It simply isn't there, which as I'm sure you can understand, makes working quite difficult.

I hope someone knows how to fix this, google is actually pretty useless during photoshop searches for anything other than tutorials.

Deleted the preference file. a selection box now appears after a selection is made but not while it's being made.

you may have hit "Control H" by accident. that hides the "marching ants". try hitting "Control H" again see if if you selections show up. That usually hides the marching ants.

No go. the 'marching ants' appear after a selection is made in full, but while using the marquee selection tool, or polygonal selection tool or any similar tool. It makes using anything other than the marquee tool pretty much impossible. This just started happening out of nowhere one day.

I've reinstalled 4 times. All I can say is 'wtf' and throw my hands in the air.

Update: If I type up a line of text, and then highlight it, it's technically highlighted in that any edits I make effect the text I dragged the mouse over, however the usually 'highlighting' that occurs when you highlight text, does not occur. This baffles me. I'm currently very glad I didn't pay for this. (got it through work, good times)

If I start a new document the default size before selection a preset is 454px by 340px. That does not seem normal to me. and this is after clearing out the settings file. (ctrl, alt, shift while starting PS CS4)

Decided to 'cheat' the system. called adobe support from my work phone

If anyone runs into issues similar to these, there is currently a problem with 'Real Time Selection Lines' while using graphics acceleration in windows 7 with Photoshop CS4, Turn graphics acceleration off in PS CS4 and you should get the lines back.

Charles, thanks for the control H tip. I didn't even know that one, that's actually pretty handy, especially when photoshop is working properly.
