cool concept like how you have added all the different challenges daily sketch, HC modelling ect into this.

Does it have to be Steampunk 1930's style? or will we have more creative freedom with what we choose to do, I hope so.

In my opinion, ParamountCell, I don't believe steampunk style is a requirement at all. I was trying to steer clear of it in my model above. Some of what I and other people did comes out of the architectural and graphic style of the era which was steamlined and art deco style, but the style for the contest was never specified. Only that it take place in a 1930s and 40s time period, so whatever that means to you.

So we will have to texture/rig/animate to on this challenge? or are we just going to make the effects? i´ve never participated on a fx challenge before so sorry if my question is kinda obvious.

Sorry I didn't word my sentence properly( and I really like the models above. :applause: ) What I meant, was does the work have to go with the retro-futuristic style, or can we choose to set our animation in any era ?for example, a futuristic, or 80's or even neanderthal, cave rocketmen :D

If any of you want to use the building I can get you those models just let me know. Much of the interior is cut also so the landing station and the back area and willing to finish out the interior if people want it. Also the draw bridge to the airship is has been modeled out to open and close I tried to put things in the building that could be animated.

If you interested in using it here are some detail images to help any story boarding.

Ah you see my master plan...
IF THIS WORKS, I might try mini challenges of a bigger scope.

I would prefer a style based on the 1930's but you can do your own thing.

So we will have to texture/rig/animate to on this challenge? or are we just going to make the effects? i´ve never participated on a fx challenge before so sorry if my question is kinda obvious.

Funny that you mention that.
I have been in talks with the mods of the rigging and animation forums.
As soon as we get a final list of avilable assets (models) we will be doing joint challeges.
Im plain english I would suggest organizing a team and using those forums to rig an animate certain content of the final animation. (of course for your entry, character animation is voluntary but highly encouraged.

This is only my second fx challenge but, If we plan in being part of this FX challenge, what is this Pre Production Thread for? What can I do now to prepare for my project or do we still have to wait to see who else is going to offer their models and stuff?

RobertoOrtiz

The point of this thread is so people can start organizing early.
Kinda like in a real production.
And since assets have already BEEN made, I needed the artists
who did them to start prepping them.

case in point

I've uploaded my models to a password protected part of my site...let me know how/when to send out the info.
We will go live next week.

BTW you did a hell of a great model.

Okay the building model is Compress, Encrypt, and uploaded

The model was done in 3ds max but I also did an obj export in the folder. The lighting and materials are vray lights and materials.

I broke my airship model out into some individual models that might interest people. The models were created in 3DSMax 2008 and rendered with mental ray. I also exported an .obj with maya presets (although should be fine for any program). The models are untextured.

Click on the image to download the model. I will provide passwords via PM messages once the challenge officially starts.
