Hi,

do you know, how can I save files in maya to 3ds format?

Some free plugins?

thanx!

If you don't want to use Polytrans (too expensive), then use this way :

1. Select Window > Preferences > Plug In Manager
2. Turn on objexport.mll

Save your objects as obj files, i think 3DSMax has free plugin script to Import OBJ files like these stuff (http://www.tdp.nu/cgi-bin/plugread_r4.pl?Type=Import&sort_a=Author) :)

FBX is currently the best free scene interchange format available.

You can also export the file as vrml from Maya which is an easy import into Max. The downside is you'll have to meshsmooth everything in max but it works very well.
