Hello, I am rendering out a vodka looking bottle for my class and I am using a Mental Ray Shader ( mia_x_shader ) With the frosted glass preset. I have a problem with it though cause it doesnt look right. kinda looks chrome like. also i want the light to pass through it properly and it just doesn't seem to be working

It should look similar to this.

Any help would be great. Thank you

Under your mia_material_x, in the "Advanced Refraction", check to be sure it's set to Solid, and also to Refractive Caustic.

Your render looks as though the materials were set to "Transparent Shadow" perhaps?

Also, are you using photons (GI) in your render?

you also have modeled the entired bottle and the liquid, you must to delete the bottle's interior wall in contact with the liquid. Change the IOR, you mut to put more or less 1.45 IOR for the glass, 1.3 for the liquid in no contact with the glass, and 1.38 for the liquid in contact with the glass.

Another thing to note is if you pay attention to most liquor/beer photography, you'll notice a a nice glow in the center of the bottle. That is usually achieved by placing a reflector right behind the bottle that is the shape of the bottle. That is what refracts through the glass and liquid to give that glow. You could achieve that by creating a polygon that is the shape of the bottle and adding incandescence to it the shader. You will have to use final gather for that method.
