View Full Version : Textures skewing in Maya
bad-j 09-16-2009, 02:08 PM Hi,
I have a pencil textured using "Automatic Mapping". When the pencil is moved/rotated from the position from where is was textured, all mapping is lost and the whole texture is skewed. How do I fix this so that I can animate the pencil and not loose my texture co-ordinates. I've attached images of what's happening. Please help!!
Thanks in advance!

Hi, sounds to me that you need to delete your history. Use Edit/Delete by Type/History or Alt+D after selecting your object. If u wanna clear the history for all your objects use Edit/Delete All by Type/History. Just remember that this also removes any deformers.
Delete your history in Maya when you are satisfied with your modeling, Maya history tends to mess stuff up.

Have you tried deleting the history on the geometry? If it is rigged in any way you can use edit>delete by type>non-deformer history to preserve your bind.
That will probably work in 99% of cases.

Thanks for such a fast reply. Deleting the history worked. Thank you so much. This pencil was not rigged. I had it just textured and converted it to an active rigid body just to simulate dynamics. But I have observed that my other objects that were textured too had the skewing problem. Deleting history worked on all of the objects in my scene.
A technical question...Any particular reason why this happens and why deleting history works? Just for the sake of knowledge. Thanks for all the help guys.
