Well, I needed a break from the interior scene I'm doing, so I thought I'd try a photoreal pool ball scene.

Eventually what I want is the cue ball to be motion blurred on its way to the rack, even though it's not in the picture yet.

I'm not exactly sure what's keeping this from being more photorealistic (I think it's far from it right now) so I'm just gonna tinker w/ the lighting more.

Any crits or suggestions would be most appreciated, especially from the VRay users :)

try adding sme blemishes to teh pool balls and maybe toning the lighting down a bit slightly

The HDRI environment that you have used to light the scene is a little too reflected in the balls.. Aside from the general over-reflectiveness, you can see that the HDRI environment doesn't really look like a pool hall or any other place you would likely see billiard balls.. Work on that.. Lots of potential, and I wait to see the finished product. :)

Wheezy360:

I totally agree with the HDRI map now that you mention it. I will search for something better to use in my next rendering definitely.

Here's the newest rendering (unfortunately with the old HDRI map). Cue ball has been added with motion blue, although I think I may be off on the calculation method or subdivisions because I see some noise in the blur... Not exactly sure what's up with that..

I'm gonna see if I can whip up a bump map that would best suit a pool ball. Also maybe a .5 drop in the light multipliers might be in order as well. Thanks a lot for the crit!

For the cue ball, it looks like the blur is comming from off the table and angling down it also seems a bit long, as well, the position that the ball is in now, that iteration should be solid.

Yeah like I said above there I'm not sure what's up with the motion blur. My numbers must be wrong for it. I'm probably going to seek advice from the people over at the VRay forums and see what they make of it. I'd like to get it fixed.

Any comments on the Depth of Field???

Thanks for the reply,

Andrew

im not sure about that hdri. it might just be me but the reflections look the same in every ball. i dont know if this is how it would look in real life but it looks kinda funky to me.
