I originally had this posted over at the finished work forum, actually it is still there just way down and I don't like bumping my own threads up there. He was actually part of a comic idea that I was playing around with years ago (and probably will never realize) somehow I felt like taking him a bit further recently just for the fun of it, in the meantime it's starting to give me idea's for a few new illustrations along the lines of alien wildlife.
I would be curious to hear any of your thoughts on this little fellow guys.

I think this is great. The anatomy of the body and legs are well thought out. And you made a nice illustration around a very believable creature.
There is some room for improvements anatomically speaking.
The neck is very thin and whip-like, his head is too large to be supported by that neck.
And, conversely, the tail is too heavy at the moment. The weapon at the end looks very havy for such a thin creature to be wielding about. It might be better a a fan of feathers. More defensive, than offensive, something to distract a preadator while it is running away.

Regardless, this is very cool. I would love to see more in the future.

Many thanks dmcgrath that's exactly the sort of feedback I was looking for, and must admit I do find some of your ideas most interesting, especially that with the feathers on the tail, never really considered feathers on this thing actually but I can see that having some real possibilites.

Cheers

Too bad there haven't been any other responses. This is a pretty nice piece.

About the feathers, thanks for taking it into consideration. You beast seems to be in a mid-evolutionary step, so feathers could be a real possibility. Especially since they are basically just keratin, the same thing that our fingernails are made out of.

Anyone else??

Cool creature, the head looks a little freaky gross but that means it is believable. Good piece and choice of color.

I pretty much agree with dmcgrath on his crits. The only thing I would add would be to maybe crop the picture a bit, because there's a lot of empty space on the left side with not a whole lot going on.
I really like the concept of the creature and you've got a good technique going with the rendering. Cool pic!

hey thanks for the reply's guys wasn't quite expecting that at the moment.

And thanks for the idea dmcgrath, not sure when I'll get the time to try it out at the moment but I find it interesting, and I liked the logic which actually it fits better than you might think as this guy was originally thought of as a sort of reptile rabbit.

Funny you know I had actually initially cropped a version to post, and it would work I feel (as true it is empty on the left), but then I was sort of thinking along the lines of 'wide and open' with the background so I left it. At any rate it is always easier to chop off as to add.

And once again thanks guys, I have a few interesting thoughts to play with now.

cheers
