I was trying to find a plugin for Cinema 4D that allowed me to import/export file types called mdx into C4D if any of you know about the game called Warcraft 3 I was trying to edit those models but the only script I know of is for 3ds Max if you need any information about mdx files and what they are e-mail me at Lacrossetitans@mac.com
the only knowledge I have of what these mdx files are Blizzard Entertainment’s® MDX polygon model format, a compressed format that contains within it an ASCII model format under the file extension MDL
Also this is a link to a tutorial using the 3ds Max script this is what I would like the plugin to do and just forget about the numbers and editing stuff at the end of it.

if you have a script for max...you can import 3ds (version4) file format into c4d...would that help..can your script output mdx into 3ds?

also try checking-milkshape..maybe export/import into obj file format then into your mdl file format.

The Game I have comes with a Map editor and one of the features is you can import files but in order to use 3D models they have to be in a certain format like mdx or mdl and the editor doesnt support files like 3ds, CD4, Max etc. So i need a plugin that can import these mdx files and export them In the same file type now the link you gave me I found a plugin or script that looks like it import/exports with the same file type and the same compression like I mentioned
http://www.augustweb.com/~anim8r/html/closet_tools.htm but I dont think they have one for Cinema 4D

ok i understand that and i would think it would be hard to find for xsi/maya/lightwave...let alone cinema.

that was why i was suggesting.
import the file mdx/mdl into milkshape...modify in cinema then export in obj file format...or 3ds...wouldn't this work for ya?

or take script run against mdl/mdx file format...and its converted to 3ds file format...open that up in cinema...modify...then export to 3ds i think would have to check...then run your script the other way to convert from 3ds to mdl/mdx.

its a pain whatever.....hopefully you will get more info from some people who have more experience in game dev.

commercial packages available for conversion are:
http://www.quick3d.org/features.html
http://www.righthemisphere.com/products/dexp/
http://www.okino.com/

but as you will see they cost a bit of money.
hope this helps...sorry don't know any more than this really.

model in cinema...save as obj.
open milkshape...import obj file
convert to mdl or whatever...

this of course doesn't account for poly conventions or limits..in mdl file format.

Do they have milkshape for Mac cause I am using a Mac?

nope pc only...sorry assumed pc as you mentioned max

just had a look through some old threads
http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49660
you could try PM creart and see if he ever found a converter for mac stuff.

also
remotion has an ASE and T3D exporter for cinema for free download at http://www.remotion.de.vu

otherwise export from cinema in either obj preferably or 3ds and then try and find a script to convert from those file format...then you gotta get around texture convertion.

also medula is the only other person who uses c4d for games who i know about who could possibly give you some tips.
good luck....
btw if you manage to get stuff from c4d into nwn then let me know will ya...never took time to explore but would be interested.

It does, but you should realise that VPC doesn't use the graphics card to display stuff on your screen. If what you do in Max relies heavily on OpenGL or another Graphic Library system, then VPC will use your G4 (assuming you have a G4 processor) to put all the things on your screen. In other words: VPC will already use a lot of your ressources, then Max jumps in, and after that your chip will also be used to play the role of graphics card. It's not advisable.

Kind regards,
