View Full Version : What Are Seams?
sumeetkaur 09-12-2009, 08:41 PM I have aquestion to ask. Below is the image of Maya UV Texture Editor. I had modeled a deer and now I have opened its UVs by Planar mapping. I want to ask what are seams? I mean would my texture show seam lines at the places wherever I have not stiched the UVs?

Yeah...everything that is not stitched together is a Seam. There are some ways to hide them, but as long as you don't use planar models only, there's no way to avoid them.
Way to conceal:
put seams where they aren't visible on the model, e.g. behind clothing (not applicable in your case ;))
paint textures in a way that the seams match up exactly (easiest with 3D painting tools like Bodypaint or Mudbox, but also possible in 2D painting)
an additional UV Layout for the polygons on either side of the seam (don't know how to do it in Maya, though). You can then blend two textures with a mask and hide the seams that way.
