View Full Version : EIAS project gets recognition at Sci An awards
Hi All,
In an earlier post I had mentioned that last year I worked on the Alzheimer's project for NIH and HBO using EIAS. The producer I had worked with just notified me that we received an honorable mention for the work at the Sci An awards. For someone who spends most of his time sitting in a dark room behind a keyboard and monitor it is nice to see the work getting some recognition.
"Honorable Mention was awarded to JANNIS PRODUCTIONS - USA
for their complex and sophisticated rendering of bioactivity in the human brain at different stages of Alzheimer's, in HBO's special series "The Alzheimer's Project". "

Good job Bill. You feel good to have something like this acknowledged. I feel good to know that it was done using my preferred software!
Do you still use EI for most of your work?
Michael.
Hi All,
Thanks for the kind words.
Michael, the answer is yes, I use EIAS for almost everything that I do in 3D. It is my primary 3D application for work. All other 3d applications that I have are exclusively used for modeling or specialty stuff like Terragen and Vue.
Camera is just so fast that I can afford to try things that would be unreasonable to do elsewhere due to time constraints. I worked on a project recently and was reminded just how fast when I realized that my renders were finishing faster than I could set them up and send them to renderama.

Well, after all of the stuff that's been happening lately with EI that is really heartening to hear!
Thanks Bill.

I recently finished a production that utilized an entire Maya department for their 3D work. I was stupefied... every time I'd finish up some AE comping or animation, I'd have several hours down time, waiting for the Maya guys to finish rendering...wait for it... rotating beveled panels.
It had me bouncing off the walls. It was the kind of thing that I could have done myself start to finish in 1/2 hour, then back to work again. In their defense, most of the work they have the Maya department for is much more complicated 3D - but all this "works better with pipeline" nonsense is still just that. Its not like we had a Nuke department that was comping out specular/occlusion/ambient/etc passes. Just waiting forever for Maya to render a square, then back to AE with a long IFF sequence that was going to be inevitably changed by the Art Director. They couldn't even figure out how to give me a normal pass, so at least I could have used some data in AE to make it look a little richer.
Perception is everything unfortunately - whether the reality matches the perceived or not.
All looked great in the end, it was just a really inefficient way to work.
BTW, EI really needs to promote their built-in matchmover.
