Hey guys, I can't seem to figure out what actually causes these weird dot/splotches in this render (see lower left of image)

Any ideas? I am using a physical sky and GI,
Stregth 85
accuracy 70 (have tried higher, no luck)
diff depth 12
stoch samples 512
min 64
max 256

Oh yeah, I am running good old 10.5 on a mac.

any help as always, is appreciated.

Thanks.

I'd say it was due to low samples... but 512 is pretty high;) and your min/max settings are pretty high too. That DD seems a way too high, maybe after that many bounces there aren't enough samples to get the job done.

Try lowering the diffuse depth (maybe something like 3 or 4) and see if that helps. You may need to throw a couple compositing tags on the problem objects to boost their GI accuracy. That part that juts out of the building right above the splotches; you could put a comp tag on that and probably get away with excluding it completely from GI, that might help eliminate those splotches too.

I haven't used AR2 GI since, well, it's been a long time:) So, I hope that stuff helps and I wasn't just spewing stupid:)

thanks kvb! I'll give it a try, the DD does makes sense now that I look at it that way! I'll try lowering it.

Maybe silly to say, but they look pretty identical, coplanar textures perhaps?
