hi !

is there a way to edit the free transformation handles in PS CS4 ? i have a patch of photographed floor and i need to match it to a floor in a different perspective. this would be so much easier if i just could define the new corners and pin those down in their new spot.

the way it works now is just messy ..

any idea ?

Will Distort do it? Edit>Transform>Distort (Ctrl+t>Right click inside>Distort). This allows you to move the control points anywhere you like.

the distortion itself is what i wanna do, but i want to replace the handles themselves.

when i hit ctrl-t i get the handles and can move them which distorts the image, but the problem is when the "corners" of the picture you wanna distort don't match the actual handle position, then you get weird stretching and you have to guestimate a lot when distorting...

see ?

I (think I) know exactly what you mean.

If your transform handles (btw, you can move them about with just the move tool and holding ctrl down) are well away from the image then maybe there's near invisible image where you don't think there is. A single pixel with 99% transparency can set the size of a layer to encompass it way over there well away from where the rest of the layer is. If you think you have this kind of error, try selecting the area you want to effect and do the transform on that or copy it to a new layer (ctrl-j). That should bring the handles in closer.

If your situation is more like the fact that a square doesn't hug a circle very well, I think you are out of luck.

hmm .. this time i am not sure what you mean .. :)

again to clarify with a pic:

let's say i have an already deformed image and i want to straighten it or realign in a different position. i hit ctrl-t .. the handles appear as a straight rectangle.

THEN i want to reposition the handles to the RED SPOTS to be able to precisely transform the image. when i use those existing handles i just don't get that precision i want ...

clearer ? :bounce:

That's pretty much exactly the "square isn't a circle" example.

I can't figure a way to do what you want. I thought it would be trivial in 3ds max, but I ran into issues there too.

The best I can give you is that is might be helpful to rotate one edge to horizontal (use the ruler) first and then do the distort. This limits the number of axes of annoyance.
